The province hosts several giant oil fields, ranked among the largest in the world, including the Rumaila field, which serves as the backbone of Iraq's oil production, alongside the Qurna, West Qurna, and Zubair fields. Basra’s role is not limited to production alone; it has developed into a key hub for exploration, refining, and transportation, with major global oil companies investing in the development of its fields. This reality has positioned Basra as a strategic energy center, not only within Iraq but across the Gulf region and the world, due to its vital contribution to international energy supplies.
